Fenley Road Safety Audits

Our road safety audits consider the safety of all road users, but especially the more vulnerable like pedestrians and cyclists. Also, our audits include recommendations for any cost-effective improvements.

We normally calculate fees based on the size and complexity of the proposed scheme, but we also have a competitive fixed fee structure for the various stages of audits. Please contact us today for introductory offers and special rates.

All fees are exclusive of travel costs (45p per mile from RG4) and VAT.

Time frame from a commission to PDF copy of every audit is 6 working days.

Road Safety Audit Stages

Feasibility Stage F Road Safety Audits

This is a useful tool to assist in determining the best options in terms of road safety and the amount of land required in order to maximise safety.

Stage 1 Road Safety Audits

Undertaken at the preliminary design stage, these assess the safety of a scheme prior to continuing with detailed design thus overcoming the danger of the detailed design becoming redundant by a subsequent and thorough safety assessment.

Generally, stage 1 road safety audits are required by Local Planning Authorities to accompany planning applications. The majority of authorities will not validate an application until a Stage 1 Road Safety Audit report is produced.

On occasions, it may be appropriate for smaller schemes to skip the stage 1 road safety audit and be subjected to a combined stage 1 and 2 audit following detailed design.

Stage 2 and 1/2 Road Safety Audits

Undertaken at the detailed design stage, these assess the safety of a scheme prior to construction.

Cost savings are likely to be made by identifying safety concerns at the detailed design stage, prior to identification after construction which would require works to be amended.

Stage 2 road safety audits are required, by most Local Planning Authorities, to accompany detailed planning applications that include on-site road networks and off-site improvement works that are undertaken under Section 38 and 278 of the Highways Act, respectively.

Stage 3 Road Safety Audits

These are undertaken following construction and, ideally, prior to the opening of on- and off-site highway works.

Generally, two site visits are needed: one during the hours of darkness and one during daylight hours. Typically, the daylight visit is attended by a member of the Local Constabulary, the Local Highway Authority and, of course, the audit team.

The majority of Local Highway Authorities require these thorough assessments to be undertaken and documented prior to adoption and taking ownership of highway works.

These assessments also reduce the likelihood of litigation following any road traffic accident that may occur perhaps due to a defect in the design/construction of highway works.

Stage 4 Road Safety Audits

Generally, these are routinely undertaken by Local Highway Authorities as part of an assessment of road traffic accidents within their area. However, on occasions, Local Highway Authorities require one to be undertaken following the maintenance period of highway works at months 12 and 36 following construction.
